A Dodge SX 2.0 (Canadian Neon) is absolutely better than nothing. You cannot logically argue that it is worse than taking public transport. On a related note, I am going to look at an SX 2.0 in the above colour tomorrow. Hopefully I will be learning to drive stick by the end of the week!

Pleeeeease tell me it’s not one of those facelifted ones.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that car. Cheap and cheerful, nice color (sorry, colour) and certainly reliable.

Yep, unless the public transportation is really good ie. Prague.

That orange is a cool color.

You guys also got the Echo hatchback up there, and they even offered a sporty Echo RS.

People are dumb sometimes. I may be an enthusiast, but I’m not going to discount a perfectly good car when it meets my needs but doesn’t elicit passion from the peanut gallery.

That orange for some reason was really popular in the early 2000s. Everything from the Pontiac Grand Am to the CTS had a variant of it. However, I hardly ever see that color on the roads anymore.

I’ve still taken to calling it the 2000s teal though.

My coworker bought one of these new. He is still driving it and has somewhere around 200,000 miles on it. It’s not just better than nothing, it’s better than a lot of similar options on the used market.

We got the sister, the Chrysler Neon in the U.K. for a while.

I’d take it over any public transport, anywhere.

Enjoy.

We had an Echo sedan. It was a surprisingly good car.

“I’d rather take public transportation than drive that.” is what someone says when they aren’t forced to take public transportation.

I would, but with some strategic blacking out of trim, I can make a facelifted one look much happier.

My friend had a ‘98 Neon and didn't change the oil for four years. It still runs fine to this day.

Get it. My brother had one and it was damn reliable, although the paint pretty much completely fell off.

Not only are they similar to Cavaliers by not dying, IIRC the SRT4 driveline is a bolt in affair. So if in the future the need for speed hits, there ya go.

Agreed, they’re nothing special, but I’ve heard they’re decently reliable, and I still see a lot on the roads here in Nova Scotia, so they can’t be that bad! :)

Any village smithy can fix it, it’s not awful to drive, and you can go places. See things. Go to work. Go to an interview for a better job. Go on a date. Go to the parts store and buy oil, and filters, and stuff. So many places to go.

Yep. She got it when she was 16 with a rebuilt title. Her boyfriend at the time finally changed the oil shortly after her 20th birthday. He and I about fainted when she told us casually she'd never bothered to change the oil. Or do anything else maintenance related. There was about 1.5 quarts in there and it came out in chunks. Looked like melted chocolate ice cream.

‘87 300D, ‘91 CRX Si, ‘97 SHO - never had the stones to ignore an oil change. 300D could have done 10K between changes, but I did them at 5K, and with Mobil 1.

Those are good little cars, my step sister had one and managed to total two other cars with it and keep driving with little more than a cracked bumper cover and some scratches. It only ended up being sold because she got something better.

On an enthusiast note, you can bolt on srt4 bits for super cheap and make quite a hot rod out of these.
